Before a tutoring consultation
Write the student’s grade, subject, one specific difficulty, and a realistic goal. Collect a recent assignment with the student’s own work and a school comment if available. List the days the family can actually attend. Ask about placement, teacher availability, lesson length, and total fees. Keep sensitive records and passwords out of an initial general inquiry.
During a weekly learning review
Choose one small independent task and note how much prompting was needed. Record a recurring error and one improvement. Ask the student to explain a strategy rather than only report a score. Share the pattern with the teacher if needed. Keep the review brief so it supports the next week’s practice instead of becoming a second exam.
Before an exam
Confirm the test name, date, registration status, location, and required materials with the official authority. For Digital SAT device readiness, consult College Board’s current instructions. For SHSAT, use the current NYC Public Schools readiness tools and directions. Practice the correct interface and plan travel. Do not use a generic checklist as a substitute for official exam rules.
Before the first class
Confirm the program, teacher or group, date, start time, length, and venue. Bring the materials the center requests and save the contact number. Ask about pickup authorization and what to do if delayed. For swimming, verify the JCC venue and the program’s equipment instructions separately. Do not assume every class meets at the tutoring center.
After the first few lessons
Ask what the student can now do independently, what to practice next, and when to review the goal. Compare recent work with the starting sample. Discuss schedule problems separately from learning needs. If something is unclear, contact the center with a specific question. Keep only the checklist items that help your household; a short usable plan is better than an unused full binder.
Your planning checklists
Checkboxes reset when you reload. No student information is collected. Print keeps the current checked state.
