Discuss placement rather than selecting a label alone
The schedule uses names such as Tadpoles, Stingrays, and Sharks, alongside beginner and higher levels. Ask the program how the child’s age and current ability map to those groups. Describe prior lessons and what the child can do comfortably. Do not select a level solely because its name sounds more advanced or a sibling previously attended it.
Use the detailed session page for current dates
The Fall Academy publishes weekday afternoon and Sunday options with a ten-session structure. The detailed timetable includes day-specific dates and exceptions that a poster’s short date range may omit. Use the schedule page to review the intended group and ask whether late entry is possible. The availability figures originally supplied in August are not a live seat counter.
Confirm the first-lesson instructions
Ask what swimwear, equipment, arrival procedure, and changing arrangements apply at the JCC. Confirm the guardian’s role and the agreed pickup procedure. Follow the venue and instructor’s safety directions. Lesson participation does not replace supervision outside the instructed session or prove that a child can swim independently in every environment.
Read the program’s pricing and absence rules
The published Fall Academy lists member and non-member prices and once- or twice-weekly options. Confirm the applicable enrollment amount before payment, especially if joining after the start. The published policy distinguishes Aquatics Department cancellations from participant absences and does not offer make-ups for ordinary missed classes. Read the full policy rather than extrapolating from other programs.
Observe progress within the taught skills
Ask what skill the child is working on and how the instructor will assess readiness for the next level. Confidence, listening to directions, and controlled technique matter alongside distance. Avoid rushing progression based on one successful attempt. Use the detailed Academy page for the schedule, original flyers, and registration link, then confirm placement with the center.
