Consider concentrated support for a defined goal
A targeted lesson can be easier to schedule than adding several different activities. Name a specific objective: solving equations independently, supporting reading answers with evidence, or reviewing a recurring SAT error. Ask whether the teacher can organize work around that priority and provide a small practice task between visits. Do not assume longer lessons are always more effective.
Evaluate travel at the actual lesson time
Check the route from home or school at the intended weekday and time, then plan the return trip. Leave room for traffic variation and the child’s transition from schoolwork. No fixed drive time or transportation service is promised here. Use a current map and confirm arrival arrangements before relying on a schedule.
Ask whether virtual support is a suitable alternative
Aurora Genesis’s published FAQ mentions both virtual and in-person tutoring. Ask about current availability for the exact subject and age; the listing does not mean every class can move online. If using a virtual lesson, prepare a quiet space and a way for the teacher to see written work. Compare independent learning afterward, not merely time spent connected.
Separate SAT and SHSAT decisions
SAT preparation and SHSAT preparation serve different admissions processes. Identify the student’s exam and current official practice results before selecting a plan. For SHSAT, check NYC Public Schools’ current tools and registration instructions. For SAT, use College Board’s practice resources. A family travel plan should support the exam timeline while preserving schoolwork and reasonable rest.
Review whether the plan is sustainable
After the first few lessons, ask whether the child can practice between sessions and whether travel repeatedly causes missed or rushed lessons. A good academic match can still require a scheduling adjustment. Contact the center with the student’s goal, realistic availability, and starting location to discuss options; there is no need to share a full home address in an initial inquiry.
